rationale

Once a person is convicted for a crime, he is either guilty for an innocent, but the fact remain that he is soon to suffer imprisonment. Life in prison is characterized by a dark, frightening and spirit-breaking experience that man, even in his right sense has the tendency to evade sentence, escape or worst of all flee to the hills or hide in the mountains and join underground movement. They later bear arms and plot to harm people who had implicated them in the crime. Worse some even become enemy of the state.

A prisoner’s life is indeed sorrowful, full of hates, full of vindictiveness full of criticism, depression and so on.

However, a prisoners life is not the end of man’s existence. Serving sentence is only temporary. Many inmates from the death row gained back their freedom. Some became Pastors/Minister of small Christian Churches. The lists include: 1) Pastors Avelino Roncal; 2) Noel Alberto; 3) Jose Balais, etc. Many former prisoners became great men such as Ret Gen. Rey Beroya, Cong. Bingbong Crisologo, Sen. Ninoy Aquino, Manila City Councelor Butch Belgica, to name a few; and 4) Rev. Jimmy Lim, Pastor of Baptist Church, located inside the MSC, Camp Sampaguita.

One of the strongest motivation for a prisoner to cope-up with difficulty on serving his sentence and later on to become productive of the coming out at Camp Sampaguita is by Empowerment.

Webster Dictionary defines empowerment as: give power or authority, taking or assuming of power. Assuming power, but coupled with responsibility. It is the power deep with which is God inspired for complete rehabilitation and correction inside the Bureau of Correction.

Thus, this organization aims to uplift the life of a serving prisoner, or those who have finished serving sentence by empowerment. Through education, spiritual formation and productivity and physical well-being, through our Lord.

primary objective / purpose

To help inmates provide livelihood program inside Camp Sampaguita, National Bilibid Prison and the women correctional and hopefully all jail found in the cities and provinces by means of empowerment that is to help them use their present skills, or discover their talents for livelihood program.

secondary objective / purpose

1) To help the inmates for their rehabilitation during their stay at Camp Sampaguita in the field of education, spiritual formation and physical well-being by becoming engaged on productive endeavor such as:

d. Others, music dance and other arts) (e.g. candle making, plastic flower)

2) To help fight for prisoners rights, such as the right to be heard, air grievance, and be given human treatment; and the right for a conjugal visit;

3) To seek the attention of the government and other NGO’s, of the deplorable conditions of our prisoners for a modern rehabilitation system; and

4) To help prisoners in their emotional well-being by asking prison officials for leniency in their visitors and for their love ones, and better medical treatment, through the help of the D.O.H., PCSO, PAGCOR and other charitable institutions, and to engage in free para-legal services for fast processing of their parole documents, in cooperation with different law schools, colleges or universities.

mission and vision

E – ssential education and Entrepreneurship training for

S – elf sufficiency and survival and to gain self respect and, for

P – rosperity and progress for prisoners family and children

Life in Prison should not be regarded on a pure curse or bad lack. It can be for a good purpose. For a born again Christian like me, I always believe that the moment a person surrenders his life to our Lord Jesus Christ, it is God who is in charge now.

Like the biblical Joseph, he experienced the 3 P’s:

Pit - Prison – Palace

Nelson Mandela has 3 P’s:

Parliamentarian - Prison - Power (Robben Island) - Presidency

A former President of our country, also had 3 P’s:

Prisoner – President of the Senate – President of the Republic

In my case, it’s from the Police to Prison and Public servant and hopefully a future Preacher in a Bible believing Christian Church.

In life, there’s a cycle of birth, adulthood and death. Plants have the same from seed planting, maturity and harvest and decay.

In life experience, I’m fascinated most to a butterfly where it undergoes 3 cycles, known as metamorphosis from a crawling insect – then a cocoon – then a butterfly – a perfect example of; from the ground to the sky. Same thing to man’s three (3) bodies, physical emotional (soul) and spiritual. When death comes, the spirit shall return unto God who gave it. (Eccl 12:7)

Life in jail has a cycle too: Prison – Parole/Pardon – Productive Live and Peace loving citizen.
